What is Herpes

Herpes is family of highly infections viruses that spread through skin to skin contact with an infected person. The two most common strains are herpes simplex virus 1 and herpes simplex virus 2. The different strains of herpes result in different painful conditions like chickenpox, genital herpes, shingles, etc.
When exposed to it, the herpes virus attacks the body’s nerve cells. This results in the eruption of painful blisters and sores. These blisters can erupt across the body, as is common during chickenpox, or be concentrated around a particular region, as it happens with genital herpes.
Once the herpes enters the bloodstream, it can’t be eliminated. The virus lives within the body and can remain dormant or can recur from time to time, depending on the trigger.
