Brown Skin


Brown skin spots can be caused due to a variety of reasons like freckles, age spots and even pregnancy marks. The different types of brown skin discoloration are explained in brief below.

•    Freckles: The medical name for freckles is ephelids. These brown skin spots are common in people with lighter skin, redheads and blondes. The freckles increase in quantity during the summer months and decrease during the winter ones.

•    Pregnancy marks: A pregnancy mark is also known as chloasma or melasma and these types of brown spots on skin are is caused due to hormonal changes. The brown skin marks during pregnancy are more commonly seen in women with darker skin. After the period of delivery though, the chloasma fades and only a few traces remain.
 
•    Age spots: Brown skin patches that are similar to freckles – age spots can be seen in all skin types and as the name suggests they occur as we get older, although they are not related to aging but to long term exposure to sunlight. These age spots are relatively harmless and can be easily treated.

Brown Skin Spots


Brown skin spots all have a single factor in common, i.e. they tend to occur more on the sun exposed areas of the face, hands, chest and back. The characteristic brown skin is a result of the over accumulation of the skin pigment melanin due to the body’s prolonged exposure to the sun. This is a natural defence mechanism used by the skin in order to avoid damage from UV rays.

There are some precautions you can take to help reduce the brown skin marks. Try washing your face with milk as the lactic acid provides a gentle exfoliating effect without irritating the skin. Lemon juice is also a well remedy known for brown spots on the skin, especially freckles. Fruit and vegetable masks or a mask made of sour cream can also be used to combat the brown spots on skin. When using the face mask though, ensure to remove it with a facial tissue and then apply a moisturizer. If your skin is oily then make sure to add lemon juice before you can apply the mask. Another excellent remedy for brown skin patches is a natural remedy using parsley juice that is mixed in equal portion with orange juice and red currant juice. Apply the same to your face in combination with a good cream to reduce the brown skin discoloration.
