Microdermabrasion Treatment - All about microdermabrasion

Micro dermabrasion works by partially or totally removing the outmost layer of dead skin by using light abrasion. Micro dermabrasion is used to treat and remove sun damaged skin and can also be used to remove scars. For some people micro dermabrasion can be used to improve acne, although the treatments must be regular for this to work effectively.

Microdermabrasion Crystal Treatment Types

There are four main treatment types for micro dermabrasion and these are:

Peeling microdermabrasion - this works by using micro crystals instead of harsh chemicals such as zinc and metal oxides. Fine micro crystals exfoliate the skins surface by polishing it rather like a deep skin massage. This has to be done every 1-2 for the first 4-6 treatments, then every 6 weeks or so to keep the skin in top condition.

Corundum Crystal Machines – this is the most common form of micro dermabrasion and they use corundum or aluminum oxide crystals. These crystals are ideal for micro dermabrasion as they have uneven edges and are second in hardness to diamonds so they exfoliate the skin perfectly. Also they don’t cause allergic reactions so can be used on people with sensitive skin conditions. People who suffer from eczema, psoriasis or itching tend to opt for this form of micro dermabrasion as it will not make their skin condition worse and can improve the condition of their skin without the need of cosmetic surgery

Other Crystal Machines – other crystals which can be used for micro dermabrasion are: sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and magnesium oxide crystals. These are cheaper than the Corundum Crystals so may not be as effective in improving the skins condition through micro dermabrasion. One downside to having this kind of micro dermabrasion however is that as the crystals used are slightly cheaper they are not as hard as other crystals and users don’t always get the desired results straight away.

Crystal Free
– this form of micro dermabrasion doesn’t use crystals but instead use diamond tipped devices that abrade the skin. This form of micro dermabrasion is thought by some to be the healthiest option. This is due to the fact that the crystals which are used in micro dermabrasion are hazardous irritants if they get into the patient or the person performing the procedures eyes, ears, nose or mouth. Therefore when having micro dermabrasion done you and the technician carrying out the treatment should wear protective eyewear and the technician should ideally wear a mask. This is to avoid crystals entering the eyes, ears, nose or mouth and this is more of a risk to the technician as they perform micro dermabrasion many times and come into contact with large amounts of the crystals every day.

Micro dermabrasion really is a good choice for people who want to improve the quality of their skin and minimize lines and wrinkles but yet do not want to have cosmetic surgery.
