We dabble with various beauty products natural or cosmetic to keep healthy skin and glowing, but beauty comes from eating right and enriching the skin from within. There are foods for skin which will aid in keeping the skin soft and smooth even during old age.

Food for skin

  • Proteins are essential for skin and its deficiency can cause the skin to become dry and dull. For proteins, eat foods such as beans, sprouts, cheese, soya beans, grain, milk, and peas. Dairy products are rich in vitamin A, which is needed to develop new skin cells. Low fat yogurt is a food good for the skin and also keeps thyroid problems at bay.
  • Carrots provide a natural sunscreen and protect the skin. Take sweet potatoes to provide beta- carotene and vitamin C.
  • Foods rich in vitamin E and C are excellent antioxidants.
  • Berries such as wild blueberries, raspberries, straw berries, cranberries, and black berries are good foods for skin. They help in making the skin smooth and supple and in neutralizing the effects of free radicals that cause aging and damage the skin.
  • Pomegranates supply anthocyanins that strengthen the tiny blood vessels and their walls that supply nutrients to the skin.
  • Essential fatty acids like omega 3 and omega 6 are healthy skin foods. They are found in fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and fresh tuna. If you do not eat fish, try walnuts, canola oil, or flaxseeds. These fatty acids keep your skin moisturized and beautiful.
  • Drink green tea with a dash of lemon juice to revitalize your skin. It is the best food for skin as it has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties that fight bacteria and keep the skin looking fresh and young.
  • Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat and are an excellent skin care food. They keep the skin youthful and prevent wrinkling and dry skin. Another best food for skin is sunflower seeds, which provides vitamin E to keep glowing skin and slow the aging of skin. It also provides essential fatty acids to lubricate the skin and help in reducing acne and black heads.
  • Whole grains loaded with vitamin B group are the best foods for clear skin. They are needed for new cells to grow in place of dead cells. They aid in strengthening the skin to fight stress and infections. They help keeping the skin silky and soft and prevent cracked and dry skin.
  • Keep your body hydrated with 6-8 glasses of water. You can include fruit juices to provide the essential nutrients and flush any toxins that could collect in the body.
