Hair Regrowth

Hair performs no vital function relative to the medical well being of humans, yet the psycho-social implications can never be underestimated. Head hair can be the crowning glory for the femininity of women and a potent symbol of masculinity and security in men. For centuries, reversal of baldness has eluded science and medicine.

The first thing a person normally tries is some sort of "miracle" hair loss shampoo, or rub on hair loss solution. Every year, more than $3.5 billion dollars are spent on these baldness "tonics" that claim hair regrowth. Almost every time, the promises of the hair loss product and user expectations are never met. The hair loss only keeps getting worse. In spite of claims and hair loss product ads you see, the only substances ever proven to regrow hair and approved by the FDA are Minoxidil and Finasteride.

Minoxidil has shown in past studies to reverse balding in men. It was the first FDA-approved hair loss treatment for growing hair in both men and women. This popular, topical hair loss solution should be applied directly to the balding areas for effect. It is available without a prescription and can easily be obtained from most medical hair restoration offices. Even though it is used to combat hair loss in the early stages, Minoxidil is sometimes used during the hair transplant process to enhance initial, new hair growth. Usage of both Minoxidil can help optimize the result of a hair transplant.

Finasteride is the first oral therapy indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in Men Only. Its safety and efficacy were demonstrated in men, from the ages of 18 to 41, with mild to moderate hair loss of the vertex and anterior mid-scalp area. Efficacy in bitemporal recession, however, could not been established. Unfortunately, Finasteride is not indicated in women or children.
