Dry hair could be a result of excessive shampooing, perming, coloring, excessive use of blow dryer, over exposure to the sun, and so on. Dry hair could also be a result of dietary deficiencies, an illness that has been around for a long time, or intake of certain medicines. If the dryness in your hair is caused by any illness or medication, your hair will get back to normal once you are over your illness and through with your medication. But if it is due to the other reasons, the first thing you need to do is stop blow drying your hair. If you color or perm your hair, make sure that there is adequate amount of time between each treatment. Also make sure that you don’t use fine toothed combs. Dry hair does not require frequent shampooing. Use a shampoo that is very mild or is made specifically for dry hair. Do not forget to condition your hair after every shampoo. Conditioning your hair is an absolute must as this will provide the hair with the required moisture to make it smooth and soft.

Apart from this, if you want to take care of your dry hair, it is mandatory that you oil you hair regularly – or at least each time before you shampoo your hair. For excessively dry flaky hair and scalp, it is vital that the hair is oiled and kept overnight before it is shampooed. Oils such as castor oil, almond oil, olive oil, and coconut oil work wonders on dry hair.

For proper hair care, you can also apply a couple of hair packs on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to combat the dryness of your hair. One such pack, which is highly effective, is a mixture of one egg, one small lime, and one tablespoon of either olive oil or coconut oil. You need to apply this mixture primarily on the scalp. This mixture will not only work on the dryness of your hair but will also take care of dandruff, if you have any. It will also provide your hair with some bounce and volume. You should also go for a stylish haircut. Apart from removing the split or damaged ends, which are part and parcel of dry hair, a good haircut will also take care of the waviness in your hair. Along with this, increase your water intake, as this is the best way to provide moisture to your body. Make sure you eat a healthy, balanced diet, which includes adequate amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins.
