Acne scar removal

Acne is one of the most common and also problematic of all skin conditions. This is because of its persistent and indiscriminate nature. What this means is that acne outbreaks can keep recurring even once the condition has resolved, and it can afflict individuals of any age, gender, race or ethnicity. Acne may seem to be a trivial matter because of its non threatening nature, but the damage that it does can be far deeper. Acne is particularly troublesome when neglected and not treated properly. Even once an outbreak clears scars may be left behind. Acne scars can be extremely disturbing as they significantly alter your appearance, which in itself does not seem serious again. Our appearances however do have a vital role to play in our feelings of self confidence and self esteem, and a blemished appearance can be psychologically damaging. Prompt treatment is therefore necessary to prevent and restrict scarring. In cases where scarring has occurred there is still a lot that can be done. Things have changed a lot and we enjoy a wide variety of acne scar removal methods at our disposal.

How to remove acne scars

  • Dermabrasion is one of the most well known methods of acne scar removal. In this process the upper layers of skin are in a sense peeled off! This method to remove acne scars is however is not highly effective.
  • Chemical peels work in the same manner as Dermabrasion, but chemicals replace the use of appliances. Both methods are equally effective, or ineffective, but they do improve the texture of your skin.
  • Collagen injections are another method, but this is expensive and needs to be repeated regularly. Moreover it does not get rid of the scars but merely hides them.
  • Laser skin resurfacing is the most effective technique of removing acne scars. A laser is used to gently vaporize the scarred skin, leaving the unscarred healthy skin visible.

There are also more drastic methods for acne scars removal like Autologous Fat Transfer and punch grafts. These methods to remove acne scars are not generally recommended and you would be advised to consult your doctor before going in for any of the above mentioned methods.

Tips for removing acne scars naturally

Natural methods are generally safer than conventional methods and are very inexpensive. The results are however generally not immediate and these acne scar removal methods are more effective for milder scars.
A paste made with sandalwood powder and black gram dal is a useful remedy. Keep it on overnight and rinse off with cold water the following morning.
A sandalwood paste with rose water is also believed to be quite effective. You can also add milk to the paste to avoid drying out the skin.
Cucumber and tomato juice are both believed to tighten pores and can be used as topical applications. Leave them on for at least fifteen minutes.

  1. Rub ice cubes on the face for 10-15 minutes. It will tighten the pores.
  2. Apply cucumber juice on the face. Wash it off after 15 minutes. It will tighten the pores.
  3. Cut the tomato in half and rub on the skin. Leave on for fifteen minutes. Wash it off with water. This will reduce open pores and blackheads. This treatment for removing acne scars is good particularly for oily skin.
