Acne is an inflammatory skin condition which usually affects the skin of the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. It is a common occurrence amongst adolescents who are undergoing hormonal changes and also amongst people with oily skin. Though acne is not a serious medical condition it can cause much discomfort and pain, looks ugly and can leave behind unsightly scars. Fortunately acne can be remedied easily using simple techniques and ingredients available easily at home. The most important thing in acne treatment is correct diet and lifestyle. You should put a heavy emphasis on your diet, ensuring it is rich in vitamins and minerals found in fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of fresh fruit juices and water to keep your system clean and your body and skin well hydrated. It is crucial to ensure that your bowels are cleansed regularly so that the toxins are flushed out and do not come out in the form of blemishes.

Apart from this, there are several other simple home remedies to treat acne. You can blanch some rosemary and nettle and apply this on the affected areas to successfully treat acne. A paste of avocado paste and water can be used to wash your face. You can also apply cooked oatmeal on your face and wash this off with cold water after 15 to 20 minutes. Lemon and honey are beneficial for acne. You can either apply a mix of lemon and honey or lemon and rose water on the affected areas for best results. Drinking 2 glasses of warm water with some lemon and honey first thing in the morning helps to cleanse the bowels and keep the skin clear. If the acne has left behind ugly scars you can get rid of them by applying a paste prepared by mixing 1 tbsp each of sour cream and yoghurt, ground oatmeal and a few drops of lemon juice and washing it off after 10 to 15 minutes. Alternately you can prepare a paste of 1 tbsp each of honey and lemon juice with 1 mashed apple and ½ a grated cucumber and apply it on your face, leaving it for 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Application of toothpaste or egg whites directly on the acne helps to get rid of the acne without leaving behind any ugly scars. Finally the traditional face-pack prepared with sandalwood powder and neem powder with some rose water is excellent for treating acne and reducing the scars.
