There are very few things you can do for scars which are so old. Your best bet is to try and lighten them as much as possible. Remedies you can make and use at home will help to some extent with the discolorations of the scars. But there is very little that can be done for leveling them off. This is of course providing that they need to be leveled off in the first place. To begin with, you can start trying to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis. This will help to shed dark dead skin cells from the surface layer of your skin. Try to exfoliate your skin at least once a week, and more if you can do it. While it is always possible to buy an exfoliating scrub off the shelf, you can also make one at home. Use a mixture made with sugar crystals and olive oil and use this for the purpose of exfoliation. Olive oil has special healing properties and can be used to generally also heal the scarring of the skin. However, it is not mandatory to use only olive oil; you can also opt for any oil. The purpose of the oil is to allow the crystalline sugar to work effectively and well. You will notice a significant change in the color and quality of your skin within about a month or so of starting to do this. If your scars are darker than the rest of your skin, you can also add a few drops of lime or lemon juice to this scrub. Lime is a natural bleaching agent and will help to lighten the color of your skin too. This process, however, will be slow and gradual and will take time to show effects.

Another thing you can do is regularly apply a paste made with tomato pulp and lime juice to your scars. Try not to use canned tomatoes, opting instead for fresh ones. This will also go a long way towards clearing your skin of discoloration. Soak a few strands of saffron in fresh milk cream overnight. Rub them the next morning and apply the cream to your scars. This will help to reduce their darkness dramatically. The only thing is that you should keep trying these methods regularly. Most natural remedies take a while to show results and these will too. Be patient and don't give up on trying easily.
